Little Planet Photos is a small business dedicated to photographing children having fun at their nursery and pre-school.
This is such an important stage in a child’s development – it’s where they begin to learn new things and make friends too. From wide-eyed wonderment to cheeks dimpled with giggles I capture all their adorable expressions in beautiful, natural portraits, infused with character and charm. My stunning images are a precious keepsake of this fleeting time for parents, and a lovely way for nurseries to offer a little extra to their clients.
My name is Annie Armitage and I have 20 years of experience in photographing babies and young children.
I am a parent too and know how to engage little ones so I can get fabulous un-posed photographs that capture each child’s unique personality.
how I work
BEFORE THE SHOOT
At our pre-shoot meeting I find out the nursery or pre-school’s timetable so we can work around it. Getting to know the keyworkers is an important part of the visit too. While it’s lovely to hold the sessions outside in the summer, I always have a plan for indoor shoots in case it’s rainy or cold on the day. So we’ll use the visit to scope out the space to find the most photogenic places and the best spots for natural light.
For the “Festive” photoshoots I just need to find the most space efficient area to do the shoot that won’t get in the way of everyday life at the nursery.
ON THE DAY
Mornings are usually best because the children are more alert and we get better images. I work with small groups: while one child is being photographed, their friends gather around so they can see what’s going on. The keyworkers play an important role in the sessions too, because they know what will amuse and engage each of the little ones.
I always try to get a great mix of shots. Along with the laughter, we will include in the gallery any contemplative shots that have been taken so there is wide range of expressions for the parent to choose from.
CHOOSING & BUYING IMAGES
After the shoot I choose a selection of the best images of each child and upload colour, and black and white versions to the gallery on a password protected gallery which has a watermark throughout the images.
I am not paid by the nursery to do the shoot or for getting the images ready to view for the parents, the way that I am compensated is via sales. I would be so grateful if parents could be mindful that I am small business and respect the reasons why I have the watermark to protect my livelihood as my work is not free.
Parents sign a permission form in advance to say that they are happy for me to photograph their child.
The images can be ordered online as beautifully presented prints in a range of sizes, framed in card presentation mounts. They are also available as digital files, which can be printed as and when, or shared online with family and friends.
Parents simply choose the images they want to buy, and pay online, selecting postage and packing if they want their prints delivered direct to them. There is one free delivery to the nursery or pre-school after the order deadline has passed.

HOW THEY WORK
Mini Sessions are held in one of Kingston’s lovely parks and each session is 30 minutes – long enough to get some fabulous family group shots as well as individual portraits, and short enough to keep young children engaged.
Because we’re very experienced at photographing children (and adults too!) we can promise you some wonderful, natural shots in that time. And don’t worry if it rains – we’ll simply reschedule.
WHAT YOU GET

- Four 9″x7″ fine art, mounted prints presented in simple black frames that can stand on your desk or be hung on a wall

SESSION GUIDELINES
The time constraints do mean that our Mini Sessions aren’t suitable for everyone. To get the most out of the Mini Session for you, we can only photograph at the most two children with their family, and they would need to be at ease in front of the camera.
